Permanent Exhibition “404 Game Center: ars●bit Selection” Vol. 2 Launches August 2!

Featured works in Round 2: HANDSUM — MotionRec / nakajima  — From_.

Starting in August—marking the second anniversary of 404 Not Found’s opening—we launched the second installment of our exhibition, featuring two new titles: HANDSUM’s MotionRec and nakajima’s From_.
MotionRec is a puzzle-action game created by three creators—shoma, m7kenji, and kyoheifujita—that shines with its unique game design, where players record their movements to progress through levels. Since February of this year, it has also been on display as part of the “Japanese Indie Games” permanent exhibition at the Strong Museum of Play—one of the world’s largest museums dedicated to play, located in Rochester, New York—as a title recommended by our project for the 2025 ars●bit Selection.
From_. is a solo project by nakajima, who is affiliated with “room6”—a leading indie game publisher based in Kyoto, Japan—while also working as a game creator in his own right. It is an adventure game in which you play as a mail carrier, delivering letters and connecting people’s feelings.
Both titles are characterized by a lyrical worldview rendered in beautiful pixel art.

We invite you to experience this new exhibition-space experiment, which transforms the diverse creative practices of indie creators into an arcade-style experience.

HANDSUM

HANDSUM is the game development team behind MotionRec.

The team transforms the simple mechanics of recording and replaying movement into a tactile puzzle-action and exploration experience.

Featured Work: MotionRec

MotionRec is a “recording puzzle-action” game in which players record the paths of their own movements and replay them elsewhere to progress.

Actions such as walking, jumping, and using environmental mechanisms are key to solving its challenges. While exploring a ruined world, players use the power of recording and playback to open paths to places that initially appear impossible to reach.

nakajima

She began developing games at the age of 20 and released his original game app From_. in 2017. He continues to pursue a wide range of creative activities centered on games, including solo exhibitions and concerts featuring his own works.

Featured Work: From_.

In an age when games can be created using as many colors as desired, this work explores how much can be expressed through a deliberately limited color palette.
Through visual expression, negative space, and rhythm created by the constraints of minimal colors and pixel art, the work offers players a quiet and immersive experience.
